Patricia Hurd is a 66 year old Maine painter, collagist, conceptual artist living in Portland Maine. Her father studied under Alexander Bower at The Portland School of Art. Patricia liked to watch him paint his murals which sparked her interest in painting at an early age. She attended The Portland School of Art which gave her a good foundation for continuing painting study with Michael Lewis at The University of Maine in Orono.
Her work is diverse consisting mostly of, but not limited to; Maine Traditions, Rural Lifestyles and Maine locations that are unique to her.
She translates with her broad shapes leading to abstraction at times and her strong color relationships influenced by Masters like Matisse. She is free in her use of different materials and mediums as well as painting styles. Hurd’s Native Maine Spirit comes through in her uniqueness.
